Fellowship in Pain Medicine

Message from the Program Director

Pain Medicine Fellowship Program

The Department of Anesthesiology at Rush University Medical Center offers a 1 year, post-residency, pain medicine fellowship for physicians desiring to further their knowledge and expertise in treating pain.

Located in the heart of Chicago’s West Side Medical Center District, the Pain Medicine Fellowship program offers a unique and sophisticated training opportunity in a high-quality tertiary-care setting where all aspects of anesthetic care and pain management are delivered.

Under our program, individuals gain experience in one of the country's most active pain centers. The Rush Department of Anesthesiology provides acute and chronic pain management services for more than 10,000 patients annually in perioperative and non-operative settings.

The program’s faculty physicians are board certified anesthesiologists with specialized training and expertise in the field of Pain Medicine. Each has extensive experience in providing successful treatment for a wide range of pain disorders including: back pain, cancer pain, chronic pain syndrome, complex regional pain syndrome, diabetic neuropathy, failed back syndrome, post-operative pain, and sports injuries.

Our philosophy is to treat the whole patient by using a multi-disciplinary approach to pain management that draws from many different interventional pain modalities, psychology and pharmacology to alternative medical techniques such as acupuncture. As professionals, the members of the Department and its Pain Medicine faculty are always working together to provide the newest and medically proven options. Consideration is also given so that the least invasive solution to the problem is used whenever possible.

Those that undertake our fellowship training program gain the opportunity to learn, under the guidance of well qualified faculty, the intricacies of pain medicine. The goal of the program is to ensure that our fellowship graduates are well qualified for specialized clinical practice, either in the university or the community setting.
