Residency in Orthopedic Surgery

Program Schedule

Call

Call in the PGY1 year is based on the surgical service for each rotation. Call in the PGY2 – PGY5 years is home call with the PGY2 taking primary calls and the PGY3-5 backing up. The exceptions are rotations at Cook County Hospital, both the PGY2 and PGY4 are in-house call. The residency is fully compliant with the ACGME requirements.

PGY – I
(1 month rotations)

  1. General Surgery (4 months)
  2. Neurosurgery
  3. Plastic Surgery
  4. Trauma Surgery/Intensive Care (2 months)
  5. Rheumatology
  6. Radiology
  7. Vascular Surgery
  8. Orthopedics

PGY – II
(10 Week Rotations)

  1. Sports Medicine
  2. Joint Replacement
  3. Spine
  4. Hand/Foot/Ankle
  5. Trauma – Cook County Hospital

PGY – III
(10 Week Rotations)

  1. Sports Medicine
  2. Joint Replacement
  3. Hand/Foot/Ankle
  4. Pediatrics/Tumor/Trauma
  5. Research

PGY – IV
(10 Week Rotations)

  1. Hand/Foot/Ankle
  2. Trauma – Cook County Hospital (2 rotations)
  3. Pediatric Spine – Shriners Hospital for Children
  4. General Pediatrics – Shriners Hospital for Children

PGY – V
(10 Week Rotations)

  1. Joint Replacement
  2. Spine
  3. Sports Medicine
  4. Trauma – Rockford Memorial Hospital/St. Anthony’s Hospital
  5. Tumor/Trauma/Pediatrics
