Message from the Program Director
The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery offers a one year fellowship in Orthopaedic Oncology. The fellowship offers clinical training with an option to pursue basic cancer research.
The clinical program specializes in tumors of the musculoskeletal system. This includes benign and malignant bone tumors and benign and malignant soft tissue tumors. In addition, metastatic disease is managed. The training includes an out-patient experience as well as an active surgical rotation. The surgery emphasizes “limb salvage” and complex reconstructive procedures. There is extensive experience with allografts and metallic implants.
The Orthopaedic Oncology service works closely with several other cancer disciplines including radiology, pathology, medical oncology, pediatric oncology, radiation oncology and rehabilitation. A multidisciplinary sarcoma conference meets bi-weekly to discuss active cases.
Fellows are expected to participate in the clinic, wards, and operating room. All fellows are required to complete a clinical or basic research project during the year of training.
Interested applicants must have completed an accredited residency in Orthopaedic Surgery and be board eligible.
