Fellowship in Hematology/Medical Oncology
Interview & Selection

This past year, 95 completed applications were received and 14 applicants were invited to interview for our two positions.. Applications are reviewed by the Program Director, the Associate Program Director of the Hematology-Oncology Fellowship Program and the education committee. Personal interviews will be requested of all successful applicants. Applicants are evaluated based on credentials and recommendation without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or sexual orientation.

Invitations for interview will be extended much ahead of time, so that optimal notice and opportunity is provided to all interview candidates, and economical travel plans can be made for those not currently based in Chicago. Interviews are offered via email and are conducted on Mondays in February from 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call the Division of Hematology Oncology at (312) 563-4502 or by e-mail at lakshmi_venugopal@rush.edu Selected applicants will be contacted to schedule a day of interviews with faculty and residents.

Applicants granted interviews should plan on spending the day. The applicant will meet with all core faculty members . The interview day is from 7 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. and is as follows:

  • Program directors and Associate Program Director’s orientation
  • Interviews with the members of the Education Committee
  • Interviews with a faculty member related to applicants special interest(s) (optional and at the request of the fellow candidate)
  • Lunch with residents and rest of the faculty members.
  • Tour of hospital

After our final interview day, applications are reviewed and our rank order list is completed. We will participate in the 2006 Fellowship Match for 2007 appointments. We will adhere to the NRMP guidelines for announcing our successful candidates.
