Application Phase
The Hematology-Oncology Fellowship Program of the Rush University Medical Center accepts two fellows per year. Our objective is through a fair application, interview and selection process, to employ in the open fellowship position, the two most highly qualified physician, who is likely to fit within the Rush University Medical Center, Division of Hematology Oncology setting, and succeed beyond fellowship as a practicing, Board Certified Hematologist-Oncologist.
Starting 2005, the RUMC Section of Hematology and Oncology Fellowship program will accept Fellowship applications through the internet based computer system, ERAS, the Electronic Residency Application Service. Hard copies of residency applications are not accepted.
This program accepts J-1 and H-1B visas. Information for foreign applicants is available online at http://www.ecfmg.org/eras/index.html. All Foreign Medical graduates may contact ECFMG ERAS Program via fax at (215) 222-5641, or by phone at (215) 386-5900 or e-mail erashelp@aamc.org to answer any questions they may have.
Applications should include all of the following:
- ERAS Common Application Form
- Curriculum Vitae
- Publications and Research Experience.
- Four letters of recommendation (one of these letters should be from the Program Director of your current residency program - Please ask your referees to pay particular attention to the following: general medical knowledge , medical competence in dealing with critically ill patients, emotional stability in working with patients with advanced malignancy , general interest in academic Hematology and Medical Oncology)
- Applicants who have had prior research experience should have a letter from their research advisors. (The research advisor should mention the background and interest in academic Hematology and Medical Oncology as a career and a view of your competence to engage in scientific research)
- Medical school transcript
- USLME transcripts
- Personal statement describing your interest in Hematology/Oncology Fellowship training.
- Photo ( not required but it helps us recognize you during the interview day)
- Applicants may submit other documentation they feel will enhance their application. (Optional)
- Licensure verification
- A valid ECFMG Certificate (if you graduated from medical school outside of the United States).
- International graduates should also include documentation of successful completion of the language skills exam
- Applicants must be eligible for certification in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine and must be licensed by the State of Illinois at the time they begin their fellowship.
