Message from the Director
We take great pride in our training program. Most of the faculty are graduates of the program from as far back as 1985 to as recently as 2007.
The Section of Nephrology at Rush University Medical Center has a long tradition of research in glomerular pathology and treatment. The Nephrology Section Head is Dr. Edmund Lewis, the Principal Investigator of the Collaborative Study Group. Studies done by the Collaborative Study Group have defined the standard of care for lupus nephritis and both type 1 and type 2 diabetic nephropathy. This history permeates all aspects of the training program.
Dr. Stephen Korbet is internationally known for his work on focal segmental glomerular sclerosis and immunotactoid glomerulopathy. Dr. Melvin Schwartz is an internationally renowned renal pathologist who has authored several chapters in Hiptinstall's "Pathology of the Kidney" considered the "bible" of renal pathology.
Although our goal is to teach the fellow all aspects of clinical nephrology, the strength of our program lies in the breadth of experience and knowledge that the faculty has as a result of these accomplishments.
