| Guidelines
and Objectives of the Fellowship
There have been no national guidelines established for Fellowships in
Movement Disorders. The objectives of the Rush University Medical Center
Fellowship are:
| A. |
To provide clinical training in the
recognition, investigation, and management of common and uncommon
movement disorders.
To meet this aim, Fellows:
1. Attend the outpatient clinics of attending physicians,
and have their own outpatient continuity
clinics.
2. Direct inpatient rounds and manage the day-to-day care
of movement disorders inpatients.
3. Attend teaching conferences at which various patients and
movement disorders are discussed.
4. Participate in the pharmacologic management of movement
disorder patients, including botulinum
toxin.
5. Learn to manage patients receiving surgery for movement
disorders.

To provide training in the design and conduct of clinical
research.
To meet this aim, Fellows:
1. Attend weekly research conferences.
2. Design and carry out clinical research projects.
3. Work to prepare grant applications.
4. Apply for departmental, institutional and outside funding
for clinical projects.
5. Attend and present results of research efforts at national
and international meetings.
6. May choose to spend additional Fellowship pursuing one or
more clinical research projects.
7. Learn basic statistical methods to develop power and size
effects, calculations and analyze data.

To provide access to laboratory research opportunities,
Fellows:
1. Attend monthly laboratory research meetings.
2. May choose to spend this second year of Fellowship in our
basic science laboratory. |
