Special Conferences

  • Morbidity and Mortality Conference
    There are four M & M grand rounds a year. A case that offers multiple teaching opportunities is presented to a panel of attendings. The panel is comprised of attendings from different subspecialties involved in the case.

  • Error Report (monthly)
    Held once a month, this conference provides discussions on quality assurance, improvement in medical care, and reinforcing the use of evidence based medicine in clinical practice.

  • Critical Appraisal Conference/ Journal Club
    Wednesday (9:00 AM – 11:00 AM)
    This conference offers a small group setting for an evidence-based discussion of clinical questions. During the first session we assess the best approach to searching medical literature for high quality information. Our discussion will approaches the question from the point of view of several different articles. The succeeding weeks give a will be general overview of statistics and critical evaluation of articles.

  • Pathology/Autopsy Conference
    Residents from the Department of Pathology present autopsy findings every other month during noon conference. The house staff involved with patient care provides the pertinent clinical history.

  • Board Review Course
    A board review course takes place on Fridays from 12:30 PM to 3:30 PM in late February through the end of the academic year. Attendance at our board examination preparation course is mandatory for all third year residents. The third year residents are relieved of other clinical obligations during these times which the exception of those residents rotating outside the Department of Medicine (e.g. Neurology, Emergency Department, Dermatology). Residents on these services are encouraged to attend but attendance is at the discretion of the respective department.
