FELLOWSHIP RESEARCH TRAINING GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
The goal of the fellowship research training program is to provide well-rounded knowledge and understanding at the subspecialist level of expertise of clinical and laboratory research related to infectious diseases by meeting the following objectives:
- To develop familiarity with and understanding of principles and activities involved in the conduct of clinical and laboratory based research in infectious diseases with regard to:
- Clinical trial design, protocol development, and procedures involved in conduct of clinical trials
- Provision of informed consent for studies involving human subjects
- Laboratory study design and implementation
- Use of laboratory research procedures and techniques
- Data collection and analysis
- Research grant writing and application procedures
- Presentation of results in meetings and in published manuscripts
- It is expected that those fellows who electively extend their fellowship to complete additional research training will develop skills related to the above objectives such that continued work will allow them to independently support their research activities and become candidates for research-related positions in fields related to infectious diseases.
