Research Opportunities
The emphasis in fellowship training at Rush University Medical Center is aimed at physicians who will go on to pursue successful careers in academic cardiology. Central to this goal is a solid foundation in the fundamentals of meaningful, independent research in cardiovascular disease.
Approximately one-third of the fellowship training period will be dedicated research time. Each fellow will engage in research according to his or her interest and will be closely guided and monitored by an academic cardiologist whose expertise coincides with the particular area under study. Fellows will be expected to formulate a proposal, generate an experimental design, carry out the experimental protocol, and present their data in an open scientific forum.
Research opportunities exist in virtually every area of cardiovascular disease. Our staff of full-time cardiologists represents a broad spectrum of expertise in basic and clinical research techniques. General areas of concentration include:
- heart transplantation and rejection
- treatment of chronic heart failure
- treatment of arrhythmias
- mechanisms, treatment and prevention of coronary artery disease
- echocardiography
- vascular biology
- myocardial perfusion imaging
- peripheral vascular disease
- congenital heart disease
We invite you to speak to any of our academic cardiologists about specific areas of ongoing research.
