Graduate Medical Education Mission and Goals
Mission
- To develop and provide educational training programs of the highest quality for resident physicians and fellows with the ultimate aim to develop physician competencies and improve and promote patient health and care
Goals and Objectives
- To attract the most highly qualified medical graduates without regard
to gender, race, ethnic origin, religion, age, sexual orientation, marital/parental
status and veteran’s status
- To provide graduates with the skills necessary for medical practice in their specialty, utilizing system-based practice skills and practice-based learning and improvement techniques modeled at Rush
- To instill trainees with a compassionate understanding of the needs of the patients, as well as the values of lifelong learning, education, teaching of students and research
- To encourage the learning of new skills and further professional development by utilizing state-of-the art technology and modern educational methods
- To be innovative in the approach to learning and offer dynamic solutions to future educational challenges
- To encourage interdisciplinary programs that cross specialty boundaries
- To link the considerable academic resources at Rush with those of our affiliated institutions to provide a widely diverse and representative educational environment and patient mix
- To offer opportunities for participation in original research and other scholarly activities
- To emphasize the understanding and appreciation of humanistic values in the practice of medicine by promoting the study of the social context of medicine, emphasizing ethical and moral values
- To help trainees acquire excellent and effective communication and interpersonal skills with patients and their families as well as staff and colleagues
- To promote and facilitate positive interactions and a collegial spirit among faculty, students, Medical Center staff and housestaff in an environment charged with the excitement of learning, sharing and professional growth
