The Section of Gastroenterology and Nutrition offers a three-year fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology. An additional fourth year of training in transplant hepatology is available.
The Fellowship is a 3-year Program with three fellows at each level.
The primary teaching institution for the subspecialty program is Rush University Medical Center, a 1,000-bed tertiary care teaching hospital where the subspecialty fellows participate in rotations on the in-patient gastroenterology consult service, in-patient as well as transplant hepatology services, basic and advanced endoscopy, and pathology/radiology. Fellows rotate at two off-site hospitals, Rush Oak Park and Rush North Shore hospitals covering both inpatient consults and outpatient clinics at these sites. Fellows also rotate through the Section’s out-patient clinics at the Rush main campus. Research is a mandatory requirement for the fellowship. Each fellow is scheduled for 6 months of protected research time over the 3 year fellowship.
