Rush Medical College

Dr. Schwer is professor and chairman of family medicine at Rush Medical College. He joined the faculty in 1982.

Dr. Schwer is senior associate editor of the World Book Rush University Medical Center Medical Encyclopedia. He has served as chairman of Rush's Admissions Committee and Curriculum Committee.

A 1978 graduate of the University of Illinois College of Medicine, Dr. Schwer completed his residency in the Rush Christ program, serving as chief resident from 1980 to 1981. He also completed a teaching fellowship in the Rush Christ program. Dr. Schwer was certified by the American Board of Family Practice in 1981 and recertified in 1988 and 1994. He was elected to membership in the Mark Lepper, MD, Society of Teachers in 1992. In recognition of his excellence as a medical educator, Dr. Schwer was named the Family Practice Teacher of the Year by the Illinois Academy of Family Physicians in 1993.
