| The Department
of Otolaryngology and provides comprehensive medical and surgical treatment
of diseases of the ears, nose, throat, head and neck to patients of all
ages. The Department has a full staff of attending physicians with expertise
in all subspecialties of otolaryngology including head and neck reconstruction,
otology, neurootology, skull base surgery, laryngology and pediatric otolaryngology.
A portion of the department resources is devoted to outpatient treatment
of diseases of the head and neck. The Otolaryngology Ambulatory Clinic
is staffed daily for inpatient consultations. Additionally, the Department
has a fully accredited residency program that provides educational training
for otolaryngology residents and medical students.
In addition to providing clinical services, the Department
is involved with treatment of two sensory systems: speech and hearing.
These systems are evaluated and treated in a multidisciplined manner in
conjunction with the Section of Communicative Disorders. The Department
has clinically and investigatively integrated with outer departments including
Radiation Therapy, Medical Oncology, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
as well as with the Rush Cancer Institute to provide comprehensive care
for head and neck cancer patients.
Services provided for hearing disabilities include surgical,
medical and non-medical rehabilitative management of hearing disorders.
Such care ranges from microsurgical treatment of hearing loss to various
forms of amplification and is in cooperation with the Section of Communicative
Disorders.
The Department maintains an active outpatient clinic
to provide continuous outpatient educational experience for residents
and medical students. The ambulatory clinic is staffed daily and provides
services for outpatient emergency care and inpatient consultations as
well as general outpatient services four days per week.
