Residency in Dermatology

Year 2010 Dermatology Residency Training Program

The Department of Dermatology offers a three-year residency training program, fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and the American Board of Dermatology. The program accommodates a total of six residents. The next residency position available in the department will be for two residents, beginning July 1, 2010. All positions are offered only through the annual National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). The application process is facilitated through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) in conjunction with the Association of American Colleges.

The focus of training is on the diagnosis, pathogenesis, (including histopathology and immunopathology) treatment and prevention of skin diseases. There is special emphasis on systemic disease - skin disease associations and relationships. The understanding of normal skin care as it relates to aesthetics is also taught. The tutorial method of clinical teaching is applied and is enhanced by a favorable staff-to-trainee ratio (nine full-time plus eighteen part-time volunteer faculty members).

Additional information may be found in the AMA's "Green Book" of Graduate Medical Education Programs, or on line with the AMA's "FREIDA" program, as well as directly from the Residency Coordinator, Karen Wackrow, in the Academic Office of the Department of Dermatology at Rush, (312) 942-6097.
