Message
from the Director Our program in Cornea, External Disease, and
Refractive Surgery has been in existence in its current form since 1995,
and has come to be regarded among applicants as one of the premier experiences
in corneal and refractive surgery subspecialty training in the country.
This is in part mainly due to the outstanding faculty that devotes its
time and energy to superior fellow training. We are fortunate to have
Dr. Richard F. Dennis, the senior partner at Chicago Cornea Consultants,
who completed his corneal fellowship at the Proctor Foundation in San
Francisco, and Dr. Randy J. Epstein, who is an internationally renowned
expert in corneal and refractive surgery. Dr. Epstein completed his fellowship
in Cornea at Emory University under Drs. George Waring and Doyle Stulting.
He also completed additional training in Ocular Immunology as well.
I was fortunate to have Drs. Dennis and Epstein as my mentors, as I
completed my corneal and refractive surgery fellowship at Rush University
Medical Center in 1998.
Our fellows derive a significant advantage from working with the esteemed
faculty at Rush University Medical Center, but also are able to gain first
hand experience in all levels of corneal and refractive surgical procedures.
I believe it is this “hands-on” approach to the fellowship that makes
it so unique and so valuable in the eyes of its graduates.
