A Message from the Program Directors
Welcome to the Pediatric Residency Program at Rush Children’s Hospital and Rush University Medical Center! Our program stresses excellence in general pediatric education, to prepare the resident for a career in general pediatrics or for a fellowship in a pediatric subspecialty. The size of our program, with 11 categorical pediatric and 4 combined internal medicine-pediatric residents per year, allows for individual attention and a comfortable environment where students, residents and faculty are well-acquainted. Our graduates consistently cite the emphasis on general pediatrics, the commitment of our faculty to their teaching role, and the responsibility and decision-making skills our residents develop as the strengths of our program.
We encourage you to read on to familiarize yourself with what our program has to offer you. Our curriculum incorporates the ACGME Core Competencies and stresses a problem-oriented, evidence-based approach to patient care. Our facilities include Rush Children’s Hospital, the Rush Pediatric Primary Care Center, a separate subspecialty clinic area and several off campus clinic sites. Our affiliations with the John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County and with the University of Illinois enhance the educational experience of our residents.
Pediatric residents at Rush are involved in all aspects of the program. We count on their contributions to both curricular and extracurricular matters. The future is bright at Rush Children’s Hospital. Expansion of pediatric cardiology with the recruitment of a world-renowned pediatric interventional cardiologist and of our palliative care services are two current examples of our growth and commitment to the delivery of both superb patient care and to the education of our residents and students.
Thank you for your interest in our program. We look forward to meeting you during the interview season!
