Unique Resources
Lifetime Medical Associates
Lifetime Medical Associates, an integrated resident-faculty practice, is the focal point of the Rush Med-Peds program. Residents have the opportunity to train in a large university program while joining a small group practice of med-peds colleagues at Lifetime Medical Associates.
During the four years of their training, residents are responsible for the care of their own panel of outpatients of all ages including entire families. As practicing physicians at Lifetime Medical Associates, Rush Med-Peds residents also develop valuable skills in office management and an understanding of the intricacies of running a group practice.
Unique Aspects of Rush University Medical Center
This year, again, U.S. News & World Report’s annual Best Hospitals issue ranked Rush University Medical Center’s programs among the best in the nation. The magazine lists the nation’s top 50 hospitals in each of 17 medical care specialties.
Rush University's four colleges -- Rush Medical College, the College of Nursing, the College of Health Sciences and the Graduate College -- support more than 1,400 research projects for 3,000 clinicians and scientists.
Rush Children's Hospital provides a full range of services to children of all ages in a state-of-the-art pediatric intensive care unit and special care nursery (NICU).
Rush was the first medical center in Illinois caring for both adults and children to achieve the prestigious Magnet designation from the American Nurses Association, the highest recognition a hospital can receive for outstanding achievement in nursing services. The award was bestowed on Rush a second time on Rush in 2006.
Patient Diversity
As the nucleus of the Rush System for Health, a cooperative healthcare delivery system made up of several outlying medical centers, Rush University Medical Center often cares for patients transferred from other system hospitals as well as outlying community hospitals.
Community physicians, academic generalists on the Rush faculty and Rush subspecialists also admit patients from the surrounding communities for treatment of both common and complex illnesses. If a patient from Lifetime Medical Associate is admitted, the resident acts as the attending physician by directing inpatient care under the supervision of Med-Peds faculty.
Rush and John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County have an affiliation agreement that allows Rush residents to rotate through Stroger Hospital.
Residents gain exposure to patients of all ages, cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds. Working with an equally varied group of attending physicians, residents learn from the combined expertise and experience of doctors from all over the Chicago area.
