Welcome
I would like to personally welcome you to Rush University Medical Center (RUMC) and our exciting Combined Program in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics. We are a large academic medical center uniquely located in the heart of Chicago’s near Westside. We are a short commute from Chicago’s famous Loop, Lakefront, and many sports venues. In fact, our location as well as our focus on excellence in clinical care have earned us the designation of official health care provider for the 2016 Olympics should Chicago be selected as the host city. Our neighbors here on the Westside Medical Campus include the John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital (formerly Cook County Hospital), the University of Illinois Chicago Campus, and several other unique health care resources.
Our mission and passion are to be an excellent program that trains residents to be primary care physicians or subspecialists who are well rounded and prepared to be clinicians, teachers, and/or researchers depending upon their own career interests. Our location as well as our academic teaching affiliation with the JH Stroger Hospital allows our residents the opportunity to train in an environment where they provide care for people of all socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds. We have a unique combined internal medicine – pediatrics primary care practice, Lifetime Medical Associates, where residents and attendings work alongside one another as colleagues. In addition to our excellence in clinical medicine and teaching we have a strong research program which residents can participate in should this be of interest to them.
Over the years we have developed many learning and service activities, such as providing care in nearby shelters and international rotations, in response to our resident’s interests. Perhaps this is truly our most unique feature – a program with many resources and strengths but with a desire to listen to our individual residents as we craft a learning experience that cultivates their own passion in medicine. We look forward to meeting with you as you explore which residency program best fits your passion.
Best wishes,
James McAuley, MD, MPH
