Graduate Medical Education
Fellowship in Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology
Letter from the Director

The Rush University Medical Center Section of Cardiology offers a fully accredited (ACGME) training program in Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology (CCEP). This is a one- to two-year fellowship consisting of clinical electrophysiology and pacing plus clinical research. Our fellowship currently accepts one fellow.

The outstanding features of this program include:

  • the integrated approach to the practice of clinical electrophysiology

  • daily rounds with an attending electrophysiologist to discuss management of new and existing patients

  • didactic teaching of both theory and technique during performance of electrophysiology studies

  • frequent ECG and intracardiac "unknown" tracings for interpretation

  • extensive pacemaker troubleshooting and reprogramming, and

  • weekly discussion of important journal articles

There is also an excellent mix of clinical case material, since we are the only electrophysiology group for this 1000-bed hospital. Furthermore, a great deal of emphasis is placed on the rationale for clinical decision making, based on the most current literature and examination of the unique aspects of each individual case.

We are in the process of setting up a basic cellular electrophysiology laboratory and computerizing the entire clinical electrophysiology database.

Sincerely,
Kousik Krishnan, MD
