About the Housestaff Association (HSA)
What is the Housestaff Association’s (HSA) mission?
- Support the well-being of Housestaff and their interests
- Act as a liaison between Housestaff and RUMC hospital administration, including participation in hospital administration committees
- Support continued education for residents and fellows
- Facilitate the improvement of quality patient care
- Establish and maintain high medical and ethical standards in the practice of medicine, allied professional fields and scientific research
Who is in the Housestaff Association?
All residents and fellows are ad hoc members of the HSA and may attend all meetings and participate in meeting discussions.
When are the meetings?
- The second Thursday of every month from noon-1pm in 994 AcFac.
- All Housestaff (residents and fellows) are welcome and encouraged to attend! Lunch is provided.
Who are the voting members of the HSA?
The voting members of the HSA include the Executive Board and the Executive Council/Delegates. See a list or find out who your representative is, visit the HSA Officers and Representatives page.
Executive Board is the governing body of the HSA and is made up of a president, vice president, treasurer, secretary, social chairperson, meeting coordinator, IT liaison, and compliance chairperson (these positions are sometimes shared between two persons). All positions are for one academic year, from July 1 to June 30.
Executive Council is made up of representatives or delegates from each residency program as well as from fellowships. Program representatives are selected by their individual programs in August of each year. The number of representatives from each program is related to the number of house officers in the program; however, every program should have at least one representative. As for fellowships, there are two representatives to represent all the medicine fellowships and two representatives to represent the surgical fellowships. All positions are for one academic year, from July 1 to June 30.

If you have concerns or issues you would like addressed by the HSA, you may use any of the following options:

- Leave an anonymous note in the HSA mailbox in the Housestaff lounge.
