Research
Research activities in the Rush Institute for Healthy Aging focus mainly on physical and mental function of older adults, nutrition and community studies of people with Alzheimer's disease. The institute also focuses on identifying and developing alternatives to institutionalization for people with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias, through the training of family members and caregivers and through adult day care centers. The institute currently has a grant from the John Hartford Foundation to provide a premier program in interdisciplinary education of health professionals involved in the care of older adults. The program involves physicians, nurses, therapists, social workers, pharmacists and chaplains.
