held this year from on Wednesday, April 23 and Thursday, April 24. The
complete program of events will be posted. All members of the Rush
community are invited to the events and to view the poster session.
The Research Forum provides an opportunity to showcase research of faculty

Medical Center and its affiliated institutions. Investigators engaged in
basic, clinical, or applied research in various disciplines are invited to
share their work with one another and to explore new collaborative
possibilities.
Call for Abstracts from Investigators
Deadline: Thursday, February 21, 2008
Abstract Submission Forms
Sigma Xi Poster Session
If you are from Rush University Medical Center or an affiliated
institution and wish to submit an abstract for a poster presentation as a
student, resident, fellow or faculty member, please use the electronic
abstract submission form (accessible from the Rush Intranet only) or the
link published for investigators at your own institution.
The email address of the first author must be used as the User Name for
the Log In for the electronic abstract submission form. Create your own
password and keep it safe. A new Log In User Name and Password should be
entered for another abstract with a different first author. The first
author should be the presenting author. The password will allow you to
re-enter the program to make revisions. If you find an error in your
abstract after it has been submitted, you can click UnSubmit, make your
corrections, and then resubmit your abstract.
After you have filled out information in the online form, you may copy and
paste your abstract (text only; ~375 words) into the space provided. Click
the submit button when you are done. An e-mail response to your address
will confirm the receipt of your abstract.
Posters will be displayed both days of the Forum, with investigators
present for discussion of their work at the reception on Thursday from
3:00-6:00 PM.
Location and Display of Posters
Posters will be displayed in the Searle Conference Center, 5th floor,
Professional Building (I) at Rush University Medical Center. All abstracts
submitted will be assigned a poster number and allotted a space by poster
number in the Searle Conference Center. Obtain your poster number from the
program booklet when you arrive to install your poster.
The space for your poster display measures 43" (wide) X 50" (high).
Similar to last year, we will be providing two-prong clips which should
hold your posters to the boards. We have had problems with pushpins in the
past and so recommend using the two-prong clips or Velcro hooks on the
back of your panels. Pushpins may be used on the bottom of your poster.
Please leave the clips when you retrieve your poster so we may reuse them
next year.
You should plan to install your poster Wednesday before 9:00 AM and have
it in place through Thursday during the Sigma Xi Poster Session (3:00-6:00
PM). When you arrive in the Conference Center to install your poster, you
can determine your poster location from the signs posted in the conference
center. The number will be printed at the top of your abstract in the
program booklet.
The Sigma Xi Poster Session and Reception on THURSDAY will provide an
opportunity for you to talk with others about your work. An awards
ceremony will be held at 3:00 PM for student posters. To help organize the
viewing and attendance at your poster, the following time periods are
suggested if your schedule permits:
ODD # POSTERS, 3:30-4:15 PM
EVEN # POSTERS, 4:15-5:00 PM
Please remove your poster/exhibit following the poster session on Thursday
no later than 5 PM. We cannot be responsible for the loss of or damage to
your materials!
Note 1: If you think you have a discovery or invention, please contact
Matthew Raymond, the Director of Intellectual Property at Rush prior to
March 1 to discuss the discovery and options for protecting it. Once the
abstract is published or the poster is presented, you may have lost
certain rights in the invention.
Note 2: A template for the 43" by 50" posters is attached below. Also a
link to the FASEB site with general guidelines for preparing a poster is
also included below.
Note 3: The John E. Ware Patient Experience Research Award is given annually
to the student project at Rush which uses patient feedback in the most innovative
or effective manner. Patient feedback is defined as any as any system of obtaining
information from patients/family members about their thoughts, feelings, emotions,
actions or evaluation of their health care experience or activities. The award
is named in honor of John E. Ware, a pioneer in the systematic use feedback
from patients to improve their care. While at the Rand Corporation he was the
Principal Investigator of the Medical Outcomes Study which developed the widely
used SF-36 Health Survey. The award comes with a $100 honorarium from the Patient
Experience Research Initiative of the Department of Health Systems Management.
