Mission Statement
Purpose
As a recognized leader in the area of continuing medical education, the Rush University / Rush Medical College Continuing Medical Education (CME) Program is dedicated to promote and facilitate excellence in CME and continuing professional development.
As a leading Institution in the presentation of CME, the Rush CME Program supports and strives to assist in the continuing professional development of physicians through improvement in the Core Competencies of:

- Practice-based Learning and Improvement
- Interpersonal and Communication Skills
- Professionalism
- Systems-based Practice
which are necessary to provide enhanced patient care services and improved healthcare outcomes for the public and the profession. Rush has established a program of CME activities that is independent, fair, balanced and objective and provides opportunities for delivering and improving the quality, safety and cost-effectiveness of patient care and outcomes. Rush encourages the development of professional lifelong learning values and individual self-assessment and self-directed learning repertoire. Through these activities we will strive to maintain Rush’s leadership position in the area of CME.
Rush does not engage in joint sponsorship of educational activities with non-accredited entities.
Content
The content areas of primary importance in considering CME topics at Rush are driven by systematic on-going needs assessment that leads to higher standards of patient care and services consistent with the current healthcare environment. Audience
Activities are intended primarily for Rush physicians and other healthcare professionals representing primary and specialty care. However, regional, national and, in some cases, international educational programs will also be conducted. Multidisciplinary allied healthcare professionals may also be targeted for relevant activities.
Activities
All CME program design is conducted according to adult education principles and practices using creative and state-of-the-art educational delivery. Innovative educational design involves a variety of modalities to complement different learning styles and needs, including lifelong self-directed learning and assessment. Activities will also be aimed at faculty and professional development, including excellence in professional education teaching, research and evaluation. Activities include:

Expected Results
The effectiveness of our CME program is evaluated on an ongoing consistent basis through individual activity evaluations and evaluation of the overall program, systematically applying these results to planning and improving subsequent activities. Whenever feasible, educational outcomes measurements will be conducted to assess changes in physician learning, performance, practice behaviors and/or clinical outcomes, in order to provide the highest quality of patient care.

Privacy Policy
The Continuing Medical Education office follows the Web privacy policy for Rush University Medical Center. Respect for the privacy of others is an important component of our institution’s policy and guidelines. (Review Rush’s Web privacy policy.) The statement below explains in more detail our policies for protecting the privacy of individuals who participate in Rush-sponsored CME activities.
Rush collects only the information necessary to provide CME registrants with the services they request. When visitors register for CME activities we ask for information about their identity to maintain a record of their participation. Registrants may be contacted if there is a problem with the registration—for instance, if there is a duplicate registration for the same activity or if there is a question about information submitted. Participants may be asked to submit a knowledge test following completion of an online course; this is necessary so that we may provide evaluation and feedback concerning the participant’s understanding of the content. Additionally, participants have the opportunity to evaluate CME activities to help us improve these activities and future ones using an online form available on our site. Completion of the form is voluntary, and participants have the option of submitting forms without personally identifiable information. We may ask participants whether they want to be notified when new CME activities are available on the site; we will not send such information to anyone who has not asked us to send it. We do not share information about participants with anyone outside Rush without the participant’s explicit consent unless we have a good faith belief that we are required by law to disclose such information. We offer a number of online courses through third-party providers; Rush is not responsible for their privacy policies. It is the participant’s responsibility to learn the privacy and data collection policies of these third-party providers.

Faculty Disclosure Statement
It is the policy of the Rush University Medical Center Office of Continuing
Medical Education to ensure that its CME activities are independent, free
of commercial bias and beyond the control of persons or organizations
with an economic interest in influencing the content of CME. Everyone
who is in a position to control the content of an educational activity
must disclose all relevant financial relationships with any commercial
interest (including but not limited to pharmaceutical companies, biomedical
device manufacturers, or other corporations whose products or services
are related to the subject matter of the presentation topic) within the
preceding 12 months If there are relationships that create a conflict
of interest, these must be resolved by the CME Course Director in consultation
with the Office of Continuing Medical Education prior to the participation
of the faculty member in the development or presentation of course content.
