Pancreas Transplant Program
Pancreas Transplant Program Patient Handbook

Education Sessions

Your transplant is more likely to be successful if you completely understand every step of the transplant process. Therefore, education is a vital part of your treatment program.

Education sessions are provided by the transplant team. We encourage your questions and active participation.

We will provide information, to ensure that you and your family are fully informed about pancreas transplantation. We will discuss the techniques of transplantation, the operation itself, and factors involved in post-transplant rehabilitation and recovery. We will fully explain the risks and complications associated with transplant surgery compared to those associated with alternative treatments.

Before your medical work-up, our staff will explain the pre-transplant evaluation procedures in detail. You will receive information regarding what you need to do after you have completed your tests and are awaiting a transplant, as well as information about your hospital stay. After your transplant, our staff will provide you with detailed information on your post-discharge responsibilities, medications and general healthcare guidelines.
