Pancreas Transplant Program
Information for Physicians

Post Pancreas Transplant Manual of Therapeutics

Longitudinal Evaluation

Pancreas transplant provides a normoglycemic state and alters the course of diabetes. Patient are routinely followed in our clinic for their transplant related data. They are also routinely seen by their ophthalmologist for continued evaluation of their retinal disease. It is quite common that the ophthalmologist will find stabilization of the patient's proliferative retinopathy following the transplant. Additionally, the patient continues to be seen by their primary care physician for their routine medical care. This is inclusive of annual physicals, immunizations and non-transplant related medical illnesses. Many patients have chronic illnesses secondary to their prolonged diabetes and the management of these problems is continued.
