Group helps kids develop social communication skills such as turn taking and reciprocity, understanding the perspective of others, and body language recognition, through fun, theme-based activities. Participants in group must have adequate learning skills to carry on a conversation, be able to follow directions independently, and be independent when participating in a group.
When: Meets on Thursdays from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.
Ages (2 groups): 4-6 and 7-9.

Language and Lyrics [offered at Chicago location]
Speech pathologist and clinical social worker offer a music-based pragmatics group. Many children have difficulty in traditional speech and counseling settings. Music will be used to develop a foundation of social/emotional skills, communication, and language competency. Children will work toward social competency, emotional understanding, coping strategies and taking the perspective of others.
When: Meets on Thursdays from 9 to 10:15 a.m. (Ages 2-3).
Ages: 3-5 (date and TBD).

Chatter Club [offered at Chicago location]
Speech and language set in play, with theme-based classes that focus on increasing expressive communication and sound production. Our therapists use music, art, and other exciting activities to enhance participation and peer interaction through verbal language. Participants should be independent in group.

Meets on Wednesdays from 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Language development, motor skills, sensory integration and preschool skills are the combined focus of this group. Picture schedules, music, gym time, and circle time help this little crowd to get ready for school.

Group participates in fun and games while the speech therapists guide them in refining their peer interaction skills like turn taking, dealing with winning and losing, "chatting," perspective taking, respecting the feeling of others, and self-regulation. Participants should be fully independent and ready to focus on "fine-tuning" their social skills.

Asperger group: Focus is on initiating appropriate topics of conversation, conversational turns, topic maintenance, interrupting, listening, initiating and reciprocating questions, making comments, stating opinions, accepting winning or losing a game, sharing, and problem solving social situations.
When: Meets on Wednesdays from 5:30-6:30 p.m.
Ages: 8-10.
Autism group: Consists of seven to eight structured activities/games-beginning with a few minutes of exercise, then moving on to making music with instruments, reading a social story, a building game/activity, using a telephone, and a game that one or more client shares from home with the group. The focus is participating in the group through appropriate turn taking, requests, answering questions, initiating questions and conversation, staying on topic, and attending to and participating in all games and activities through verbal and non-verbal communication.
When: Meets on Saturdays from 8:30-9:30 a.m.

"Back to School" social language group provides children with fun opportunities to experience peer relationships in a positive and supportive environment.
