Circadian Desynchrony in Alcohol-Induced Gut Leakiness
It has been shown that some people who drink too much alcohol have a leaky gut. A leaky gut is when your intestines could allow passage of fluids and bacteria out of your intestines into the rest of your body. The purpose of this study is to see if not having a normal sleep pattern can cause a leaky gut in some participants and not others. We expect to recruit 120 patients for this study. If you are enrolled in the study, you will be compensated for your participation.
You may be eligible to participate in this study if you are 21-70 years of age and fall into one of the three groups:
- Alcoholic without liver disease
- Healthy control day worker (work three or more 12-hour shifts a week) who consumes alcohol, but has no history of alcoholism
- Healthy control night worker (work three or more 12-hour shifts a week) who consumes alcohol, but has no history of alcoholism
